About the Artist, Jose Valencia

"Since childhood, I've been looking for a way to express emotions, always
from an optimistic point of view; happy, pleasant for the onlooker. I started
drawing when I was very young, played around with music, discovered the
female while studying fashion and clothes design, wrote a few stories. I saw
other worlds creating sets for the theatre and spent five years in Fine Art
choosing the way that lead me to illustration. One day I started to paint, to
experiment with my hobbies and previous experiences. Some years later, my
art is the road where all my interests unite."

Jose Valencia is a young figurative artist who is becoming a central
figure in the latest Spanish trend to come out of Barcelona. He is part of
a new movement which centres on the human emotion, mainly through
the female figure.
Through his powerful and initially straightforward paintings, Valencia
captures the essence of the eternal confrontation between genders.
The masterly chosen colours and textures immediately attract the
spectators' attention and, together with the smiling women, make the
viewer feel enough at ease to be able to comprehend the final intention
of the artist. Valencia's background in illustration becomes evident in the way he
combines images and text -the works' titles - in order to present the viewer
not only with a painting, but with a whole underlying story.
